I know I can't make this one, but I found our breakfasts in Cafe Italia in Trinity Street were excellent - see post #2 of this thread. Their scrambled egg was particularly good Thumbs up
I'm sure it is very good but I haven't been able to face scrambled egg since being force fed it in Keresley Hospital 70 years ago! Sad Sausages and bacon for me. Thumbs up

The Café Italia has great food but too small and noisy for the gang. Just found out that the roofer can't start now till the 17th, so I'm good to go!

Not to Sister Edwards it wasn't! Twisted My sympathies are now with the cadet nurses who would be in trouble if my plate was not clean. (Somewhat off topic but there is a very insightful autobiography, "What are yer, Bleeder" by Derek Haughton (RIP) of this forum giving his experiences as a child in Coventry hospitals and special schools of the 1950's. Perhaps it should be added to the bibliography of "Books about Coventry". I got a copy from Amazon.)

Thank you for the reminder, Choirboy - I'd forgotten that I have parts 1 and 2 of Derek Haughton's autobiography, so I've just added them to my Bibliography on Historic Coventry. The book you've mentioned above is the first part, which I have read - the second is "The Rest of Me Bleeding Life", which I haven't, yet. What I hadn't realised, however, is that the author was on our forum going by the username TomRymer. How lovely it would've been to meet him, and how sad that we no longer can.

Rob, Volume 2 is on my desk waiting to be read atm. He was brought up in Wyken less than half a mile from me but on the other side of the Ansty Road, the equivalent of the Berlin Wall to a child. I realise our paths crossed briefly during 1959 while in Gulson Hospital. What a strong person he must have been to survive and conquer his disability, and gain so much insight into life. Back to topic: I will be away and not home until late Friday before our breakfast meet up. What time do we usually gather?

9:30, in the front door, turn right, up the few steps and we're usually in there.

I can make April 15th at The Flying Standard but not the Parkside bit unless there is some parking there. I have to drive and park at the West Orchard multistorey for the meal.

I'm not averse to sharing a taxi to Ben's lair and back if there are some who'd like to go but don't fancy the trek. I was planning to park at the Salt Lane car park which is pricier but closer to Parkside.

There are some car parks at Parkside but I'm not sure if they are general public. I'm sure Ben can tell us. I'll be riding my bike in unless you need that lift Philip? Happy to walk from The Flying Standard.

Hi Neil, Thank you. I will make every effort to get there. Trains might be running, so I will get a fast train via Dover & Basingstoke. An alternative route is via Macclesfield.
