Just wondered if anyone has any details of an incident involving a railway policeman being assaulted with a meathook during a robbery. I have no year, and it's not even certain that the incident took place in Coventry, but it's fairly certain that the policeman's parents lived in Coventry. I think the man's name could have been Robinson. Bit of a long shot, but I have had some great help on this forum before. Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Not having a year doesn't help, it was something that came up on my family tree. I have a family living in Coventry, and someone has suggested that there was another family member (the policeman) that we know nothing about.

What sort of era are you talking Del 80? I came across one article in 1965 about PC Norman Foster who was attacked on Birmingham goods yard with an iron bar. They handcuffed him to trailer and then smashed open a container and stole 1 million cigarettes. It was reported in the Coventry Telegraph but does not mention anything about Coventry.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a year I'm afraid, although the 50's / 60's could be about right. The person that sent me the information has suggested that the policeman in question was injured quite badly, and was invalided out of the force. I will have to look into it further, as I cannot find a link to the family in Coventry, and think the person may be confusing things slightly. They also mentioned that the family "could" have lived at Nuneaton.
