Hello Surgerybods, I'm Steve, Les Beard's son. Unfortunately he's no longer with us. He talked a lot about his Morris days and yes he mentioned many times he used to collect the surgery nurse for her shift. He did the same for at least one of the cleaners.

Harold Kerry was a legend and I should know being his son of 62 years old. He took us to many a party in the 60's and 70's and when he came home from nights made me a cup of tea and some toast, and got me up for my paper round and made me the man I am today.. never really talked about work but he did well there and made some great friends.. Sadly passed away before his time in 1997, aged 66... I miss him but love seeing his name on here as a note...

Hi, My wife`s uncle (John (Jack) Shaw), we believe, was a director in the Morris Motors engine dept. Does anyone remember him or have any comments, please?

Thanks for posting the film clip of the main office at Morris Engines. When in 1982 was this taken as my late dad was a progress chaser and I am wondering if he was still working there at the time of this film being made before being made redundant?

I started as an apprentice in August 1964 and also spent time at the NUFF, as you said good times. If I remember right one of the shapers was a tallish chap called Ted. I spent most of my time there on the universal milling alongside a great chap called Ken Shelton. I remember there was a jig borer named Geoff or Jeff. The foreman on the fitting was a small chap named Bill, can't remember his second name. The gaffers in the office were Eric Hill and Arthur somebody I think. The only one I can think of in the drawing office or planning was Alan Bennett. My name is Brian Henderson, don't know if that rings a bell, it was a long long time ago. I used to have a Triumph 650 with white fairing and parked it in the little bike rack by the entrance. Posted a pic of myself and Ted Dinan on the site a few months ago, also the toolroom inter departmental football team at Morris Engines, you might remember a few faces on there. Cheers, Bri
Hello Brian, I was an apprentice in the toolroom, working on the lathes just in front of your machine. Great place to learn engineering and a great bunch of lads. Do you remember one of the tool fitters who cycled to work wearing a long trench coat which was filthy with metal dust and it was said that if it rained his coat turned rusty. I would love to hear about your working career if you have the time and we can share memories. Jim Wilcox

Hello Rob, I remember whilst during my apprentice days two of us took part in the Morris engines initiation event where we had to hitchhike from the factory to as far North as we could using zero money. We had an envelope with some cash in it but if we used it we would have points deducted. It all started at 4.00pm on the Friday and we had to be back by 12.00 midday on the Sunday. We arrived back at 11.45 absolutely knackered and totally fed up eating fig bars and cold rice. We got as far as Shap, near Preston and were in the lead until another pair turned up having reached Inverness so we came second. We did get our photo into the Cov. Telegraph. The other apprentice was Derek Baylis and his dad worked somewhere at Morris. Great fun.

Hello Jim, Please may I ask which member "Rob" you are wishing to talk to? I know it's not me, as I've never worked at Morris (I was GEC), but if we can help to get you in touch with the right person, we'll do our best. Smile

I am interested in any information on my grandfather LW Bolton, Wellingborough Foundry Manager 1947-70 and possibly Coventry 1963-69. Can anyone draw a basic map of the main Shops for my research? Send me a message and I'll provide my email.
