Public Clocks in Coventry

They weren't all up at the same time. The three main shop front ones that I can think of was this one, the one in the Burges and one on the south side of Smithford Street. There were clocks on St John's and Holy Trinity. Then there was the market hall and later still there was the Council House. There was the old one on the old Grammar School but I'm not sure that it survived the demolition of the front. Anybody think of any others?

The one on Broadgate Helen, where 'peeping Tom' and Lady Godiva make an hourly appearance ! I think that is probably the biggest in the City Centre.

I never remember that one Turns out there was a topic for clocks in general and there's another for clocks at bus stops here. There's no good image of the Smithford clock but it can be seen above the carriage in the picture below. An excellent pic from Rob's own collection.

I wonder who took or takes possession of those clocks when those old buildings are or were demolished. I bet there were numerous in their day.

At one time (no pun intended), there was a wall clock on the side of the of the Gas Showrooms on Market Way, in between BHS & Woolworth's. This was visible until Centre Point was built and obscured it.

I vaguely recall seeing a photo of a public clock located near to the old Drill Hall on Queen Victoria Road, circa 1930s-1950s in a book I used to have on old Coventry. I feel after an internet search, it might have been the old Market Place clock. I'm sure someone will either confirm, or correct me. I did have a search through the Drill Hall topic here, but didn't see anything that I remember, but then memories do fade with time..... Sadly the book (plus a few others on old Coventry) went AWOL some 30 years ago when we moved to our current house.

There are pictures of a clock on the Canal Basin but I don't know how old it is.
