This is an interesting view thanks to Debbie Dean Nelson on the True Cov FB page - I'm trying to work out where it's been taken from but looking at maps it appears it may have been from Conduit Yard? Although it looks a little too wide for that (in which case Mods move when confirmed!) I just don't think that view of St John's would be possible from the then Queen Victoria Road? Or is it Spon Street?

I think it's the modern road, which follows neither in the scene. Conduit Yard was more or less parallel to the end of St John's - so somewhere beyond the hoarding on the right. Queen Victoria Road was snipped off to make a cul-de-sac and then a car park by the new road. It runs beyond the left of the photo. The modern road borrows part of the Queen Victoria Road behind the camera - I think - the post war stuff isn't my remit.

From Poole's Coventry it's History and Antiquities 1870 In 1779 a conduit in Spon Street, opposite the Bridewell, or the southern gate of Bablake Churchyard, was rebuilt, and in 1819 it was repaired. Soon after the new water-works were established, this conduit, which was at the top of what is now called "the Conduit Yard" was replaced by a tap from the works, which has since been removed to the opposite side of the street.

Yes, and just behind the photographer was the Casino coffee bar just inside Fleet Street, and at the front of that blue car, on the other side of the road, the dark shape you can just make out, the police box - had a few laughs there.
