Some of Coventry's treasures have migrated to all parts of the country but the British Museum and the V&A amongst others have various items that were collected in the city. Their attribution changes over time. The picture below is from the Troughton collection. It's amongst a series documenting finds from the Sherbourne and the Cathedral. There was extensive digging at the Cathedral and the demolition of the city mills, involving many of the same areas that J B Shelton investigated. Much of it is sketched by the good doctor. This picture is described as Abbott's ring and cathedral pavement. You'll recognise the objects here a tile from the V&A described as coming from Whitmore Park and here the ring at the British Museum, described as being found near the town wall. I suspect that at least some of the coins are at the British Museum and more of the tiles in some of Troughton's other sketches might be at the V&A. Scroll down for photos. I don't know about you guys but seeing a sketch and a photo of the same thing after all the intervening years, where they could have been lost, almost feels spooky.
