I was friends with the younger of the Mogano boys, who was a pupil at Bablake School. It was considered that Mr Mogano would not have had enough time to have got home from work, carried out the murder, and got back to work in time.

Interesting that the Telegraph is calling it the Carlo Mogano murder! LINK It may be a simple typo or it may be that detectives spoke to Telegraph reporters at the time "strictly off the record". Of course, thinking you "know" who committed a murder and being able to prove it in a court of law are two very different things.

The Mogano murder was very frightening as I was 6 going on 7 at the time. The house faced onto Radford Common from Holland Road. Next to the house was a large spinney where we as kids would spend many hours climbing the willow trees and hanging on as we slid down the branches. We would hide from the bobby on the beat as he went by. At the back of the houses were a labyrinth of alleyways and entries which we would move from one area of the Universe to another, a perfect getaway for any crime. The police knocked on all the doors in Engelton Road and the other streets and all adult males were interviewed, yes it was frightening. We shared information at school but all the kids were really frightened by the happenings and the stories that came out. Mr Mogano was always the favourite to have committed offence and which was supposed to have been about some jealousy related to the ballroom dancing. One of my friends lived two doors away from the murder and three others also lived in the street. Frightening times as a child. Did it stop us going in the spinney?
