Another photo from Derek Huntriss, probably from around 1960, but comes with no further information. It would appear to be a group of patients within hospital grounds, but the garage across the road is intriguing. When blown up I can make out "moto8cr...." (I think), plus part of what looks like a JET fuel sign (see second image below). Where might it be, I wonder?

How about motoscr?, s instead of an 8?
Definitely a JET sign, also what looks like a Triumph Herald estate car.
Difficult to say, and purely a wild guess, I'm tempted think somewhere around Coventry Station, Warwick Road looking at all the greenery. Could even be Earlsdon area....

Since the group includes a woman who looks like she's a matron/nurse, it must be staff from either a school or a large business. For a large business the group is an odd mix of people (youngster at the front, guy with a non white shirt and no tie on the right) and possibly not big enough to incorporate all of them. So it might be part of the staff? As a group it fits if the two out of place guys are caretakers in a school, although the group would be missing the catering staff and dinner ladies.

Is that Motoserv? Name rings a bell but I can't find anything online saying there was a Motoserv in Coventry in the approximate period (but then again, I'm no expert!).

The chaps to our right of the front row all have slippers on, that has to mark them out as patients, surely? And that's without mentioning the bandaged head.

Could Motoscreens be a possibility? Also could the group be from a convalescent home? Many Coventry firms had there own homes at that time where workers could recover from surgery or illness before going back to work

The buildings at the back seem to go up a hillside so that would possibly put it nearer the coast.

I believe it's taken in the grounds of a convalescent home named Lanherne in Exeter Road in Dawlish Devon. The house had been sold in 1944 to the Coventry and Warwickshire Saturday Hospital Fund and run as a convalescent home for fifty men by the General and Municipal Workers Union.
Streetmap today shows a changed view but just about recognisable. The home has gone and replaced with sheltered housing which still retains the name Lanherne

Well done Geoff, and the wall is still there. Here is an article about it:

Wow, what fantastic detective work by you all - thank you so much! What were the chances of finding somewhere so distant, eh? Brilliant stuff.

There is just one mention of a Motoservice garage there in 1980's

I hadn't noticed this one on CD before - anyone recognise where Mr Shelton is investigating?

I think I've posted about this before? It's the rear of number 16 Spon Street. The Recruiting Sargent would have been to the right.
