Hi Dreamtime, great wedding photo, from previous photos of your parents running the Navigation I can see the likeness of you and your dear mother. Did you have your reception at the Navigation?

No Mr Blue Sky, We were at the Broomfield Tavern in '61 but as you mentioned it our reception was held at the Keresley Hall Hotel, as it was called then. Just a few years later my parents took over the Navigation.

This photograph is of my Great Grandparents, George Henry Darby and Helen (Ellen) Teresa Naughton on their wedding day in 1896. The civil register records the wedding as between July - September 1896. I have no idea where it took place. George and his wife were living at 6 Colchester Street in August 1897 when my grandmother was born in the registration sub-district of Holy Trinity Coventry. George Henry was Church of England and I believe Helen was a Roman Catholic as my grandmother was baptised as a Roman Catholic as a baby. George was a Cycle Machinist. I can find no record of where the marriage took place, I just have the photograph. Any ideas would be welcome?

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to the forum
I hope that someone with more family researching skills than mine, can help.

Hi Elizabeth, on the civil registration there will be a number by each of their names. You can send for a copy of their wedding certificate on the site Gov.uk. Unfortunately it does cost £12.50 but it should tell you the name of the church. If you don't have access to the civil registration I can see if I can find it for you. Good luck.

A couple more for the album. Wedding at Coventry Registry Office on a sunny day in November 1969 and reception upstairs at the Pilot. As my dad worked at Sutton's Bakeries he was able to have a cake made for us that looked like wedgewood.
Hi Anne, did Graham Oag make you that cake??

Not sure Mick who made it at Suttons but I think it was a young lady. I know it was difficult making the colour.

That's exactly the same as our cake in 1968! We ordered it from a bakery in the precinct near the market. The top layer went missing at the reception - maybe it all got eaten. Our reception was somewhere in Coundon near the Bablake playing fields. The Craftmens Arms maybe?

lindatee2002 - The pub nearest to Bablake Playing Fields is now back to the original name of The Nugget in Coundon Green, but in 1968 it was called The Sky Blue. Other nearby candidates would be The Wallace at the junction of Keresley Rd and Norman Place Rd, or the pub at the top of Barkers Butts Lane, not there now and I can't remember the name.
Edit: It was The Cedars at the top of Barkers Butts Lane. I found the name in the Coventry Pub History index.
