Coventry Bees Speedway - Brandon Stadium

The current owners propose to provide 'a Speedway facility' along with their new houses of course. There is no mention of Stock Car Racing, just a Speedway facility. Speedway alone is not a viable business, it needs to co-exist with Stock Car Racing, greyhound racing or other activities to make the stadium economically viable. The proposal clearly says 'Speedway facility', it does not say that it will return Brandon Stadium to its former glory. A number of the more recent Speedway tracks are just that, a track with a safety fence, a bit of space for spectators, and maybe a portacabin or two as changing rooms. If Brandon Estates was to build a speedway facility, that is all they would build. Their proposal to build a 3G football pitch was just a red herring, they may have built it but within a year or two would have closed it down because of residents complaining about the noise, or under use. The promise to provide a speedway facility is another such red herring, they would build the houses and then decide that Speedway is not an economically viable business proposition. They would then submit further planning applications to build even more houses. Brandon Estates also draw residents' attention to the present derelict appearance of the stadium site, yet fail to remind people that it was them that closed the stadium down in 2016, it was them who failed to secure the site on many occasions, and it was them who were prosecuted by Rugby Council for allowing the site to fall into such disrepair though lack of proper site security.
