You're quite right, Anne. The dates I quoted were for "matches". In addition there were "open meetings", the first of which was, as you say, was on 12 July. A series of "Midland Daily Telegraph Cup Scratch Races" were held first, with Roy Dook the winner with three wins from his three starts. Bill Pitcher then won the "Brandon Open Handicap", beating Dook, Alec Statham and Stan Dell in the final.

There is some sad news today, that former Bees rider Pete Gay has passed away in Auckland, New Zealand. He was seriously ill, having suffered severe burns in a house fire a few weeks ago, but succumbed to a chest infection in hospital yesterday. He was 81. RIP Pete Sad

I'm sure I remember that Ron Mountford was a pretty useful show jumper in his youth! Anyone able to confirm that?

Shocked and saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Apart from Booey, he was the real stalwart of the Bees throughout the 60's. As he used to work with my old man in his apprenticeship days, I got to know Jim and it was his racing at Brandon that first got me to Brandon with my Dad in the 50's, and that started my love of the sport. A local lad who led his local team to many a triumph. A sad day indeed. RIP Jim, my prayers and thoughts are with all your family and friends.
